Bullying is not a normal part of childhood. While many adults remember being bullied in school and it is seen as common, bullying behaviors and activities are far more of a social problem than society once thought. Research shows that children who exhibit bullying behavior are at a higher risk to have higher rates of incarceration later in life. Bullied, victimized children are at risk of having increased rates of depression later in life.
If your child is being bullied in their school, there is something you can do about it! According to No Child Left Behind, schools are supposed to ensure that every child that attends school can attend without threat of being harmed physically and emotionally. Your child has legal rights as well. O'Connor Consulting can give you the information you need to help protect your child from being physically assaulted as well as strategies to use to help protect your child against the emotionally damaging effects of bullying.
Many programs are available for bullying, but they only do half of the job, or have advice based on a "cookie cutter" approach that may not work for every school. Countries are not homogenous. Every town throughout a country is culturally just a bit different. Every school within towns across the country is slightly or vastly different. The way bullying culminates within a school can vary very widely. Sometimes, popular children can be the bullies in some communities, while in others the "outcasts" can be the bullies.
O’Connor Consulting can help parents, teachers, school boards, and administrators improve the school environment. Our program is a school-wide, comprehensive program that involves the entire community in learning how bullying culminates in each school, where the bullying occurs, and how it affects the student body as a whole.
The first step is research. Teachers will administer a school-wide survey to the children that help the school faculty learn which grades experience bullying and where it occurs within the school. Once the results from the research are learned, we take those results to provide specialized training to teachers and school faculty to learn how to control bullying as it occurs in their school, including neutralizing the hot spots in the school.
After learning how bullying matriculates in the school, O'Connor Consulting helps teachers and administrators include the student body in order to help change the culture of the student body. This will help minimize interruptions and problematic behavior within the classroom.
This process is followed by a post-assessment. The school-wide survey will once again be administered to see if the incidences of bullying has decreased. Other strategies to assess the rate of bullying behaviors will be utilized for an overall, thorough assessment.
O'Connor Consulting will be there from beginning to end to assist schools in the entire process, and school boards and administrators will not have to worry about placing more stress on already overworked school staff.
